Organizers of the seventh annual Walk & Wag had a beautiful day Saturday to walk their 50 pets and raised $7,000 in the process.

According to Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter (FoCCAS) vice president Sarah Miller, it was a great outing and she was very appreciative to everyone who participated.

“Once again the community came out to support the animals,” she said. “We had 50 sponsors and many more donations today. It’s great to see so many dogs — big, small, young, old and every color. This was a great event again because of the planning of the committee and our amazing volunteers, and I can’t thank them enough.”

The event was held in the Walterboro Wildlife Center’s parking lot with walks through the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary.

During a bingo game, participates earned blocks by showing that their dogs was wearing ID, taking their picture with their dog, running the obstacle course with their dog, getting a kiss from their dog, etc.

Everyone earning a bingo block received a FoCCAS tote bag and was entered into a drawing for gift certificates from two local sponsors or a CACE (Colleton Animal Commitment Education) backpack.

H&D Supermarket certificate winners were Shannon Myers, Bonnie Mesick, Joselyn Griebel and Blake G.

Burger King/Cook Enterprises certificate winners were Crystal Shumard, Katie Herndon, Anne Mathis Thomas, Pasqna Sirbastain Nelson and Kathryn Moore. CACE backpacks were Erin Nichols and Sarah Branam.

Winners of the raffles were:

The dog-themed wreath, made and donated by Heather Lynne Designs, was won by Shannon Myers.

The goody bag, donated by Audra Hudson, was won by Karen Klein.

The Scentsy gift basket, donated by Ashley Beth Nettles, was won by William Myers.

The doggy toy basket, donated by FoCCAS supporters, was won by Gail Howell.

FoCCAS is a support organization for the Colleton County Animal Shelter and the animals of Colleton County. The money raised at Walk & Wag will go toward FoCCAS’ programs such as community spay/neuter initiatives, flea and heartworm prevention for the dogs at the shelter, emergency vet care for adoptable animals at the shelter, and FoCCAS’ responsible pet ownership education program.
