Friday marks the 70th anniversary of the comic book “The Peanuts” by St. Paul native Charles Schulz, and a few organizations are working to provide hospitals around the world with murals of – you guessed it – Snoopy.

Peanuts Worldwide with Gillette Children’s and the Foundation for Hospital Art debuted Thursday at One Brooklyn Health at Brookdale Hospital in New York and Orange County Children’s Hospital in California.

Gillette Children’s Specialty Health Care in St. Paul will receive their mural on Friday. Gillette Children’s patients and staff helped paint the six-panel mural that depicts Snoopy and Woodstock atop a niche.

“At Gillette, we are grateful and delighted to receive Snoopy’s gift through Peanuts and the Hospital Art Foundation,” said Natalie Kinsky, Director of Children and Family Services. “Snoopy represents the best of all of us – imagination, confidence, resilience and, of course, a huge good mood! – and that’s exactly what we would like every person to feel as they walk through our doors. We couldn’t be happier.

The effort is part of the “Take Care With Peanuts” initiative which focuses on self-care, caring for others and caring for the planet.
