One thing we do know about Lebanon is that it is full of heroes without medals. Not all heroes wear capes… most are not even recognized or recognized.

They are the ones who do their best where little or no at all, sacrificing themselves in the shadow of the unknown, at their peril, seeking no glory and making a big difference.

We are determined to give every hero their credit. After meeting the 88-year-old man from Tripoli who is sheltering dogs abandoned during the pandemic, we met Anthony Abihanna.

This down-to-earth man, a graduate of the Collège des Frères Maristes Champville and the University of Bordeaux (France), is dedicated to saving mistreated dogs, housing them and taking care of them.

Her personal mission goes beyond an act of humanity, and her story is one of boundless dedication, and you’ll see why.

Anthony has put all his material possessions into creating a shelter for stray dogs. He alone meets the needs of his dogs; it’s never easy, but it’s done with love.

If you’d like to get a taste of how far Anthony is willing to go in caring for vulnerable dogs, check out this video:

Anthony takes to Facebook almost every day to let people know about his dogs, their health, medical trips, and what those who wish to help can do.

Most of his rescues are dogs in very poor condition. But luckily for them, Anthony brings them back to form.

We can see these dogs go from sad and scared to happy and playful in no time under Anthony’s care.

The961 got in touch with this brave man, who told us about his daily struggles to feed and care for over 100 injured dogs:

“I cook a lot of meat for my dogs every day. There are a lot of mouths to feed. It is expensive and takes time, but I do it every day, ”he told us.

“What I have the most difficulty providing, however, is the medication; especially worm medicine.

Anthony used to have the help of a friendly vet and pharmacist, but the current situation was drying up sources of food, medicine and money.

Along with his struggle to keep his dogs and welcome new ones, Anthony struggled to keep his land. He had his shelter near his home.

This land was loaned to him by Wakef from a local church, but his neighbors had a problem with barking, so he moved his shelter an hour away.

“I will do anything for my dogs,” Anthony told The961, “my dogs are the most important thing in life. It was crazy that the church asked me to move, after all, I do humanitarian action and all religions call on us to take care of the weak.

“But I had to move, and I did. The main thing is that my dogs are safe. If I stayed where I was and someone hurt one of my dogs, I don’t know what I would have done.

Anthony’s good deeds go beyond rescuing dogs. He also makes sure dogs in need of a warm home are adopted and even helps lost dogs find their way home.
