LOS ANGELES, CA — Parents looking for more activities to fill their kids’ summer calendars during stay-at-home orders can add virtual dog training to the list, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles announced Monday.
Group Woof & Wifi classes for kids 12 years and older will teach the basics of positive-reinforcement dog training through games, training exercises and at-home challenges that cover a mix of obedience, tricks and agility.
The twice-weekly 45-minute sessions, which run for three weeks, start June 22 at the cost of $100 per dog. Registration includes up to 30 minutes of additional one-on-one support from the instructor every week, as well as access to independent learning materials, a video resource library and a sharing platform to further support progress in training. Interested owners can register at spcala.com.
City and county animal shelters and rescue groups have highlighted opportunities to foster dogs and cats during the stay-at-home orders, when some financially strapped pet owners have had to relinquish their animals to shelters.
Families with younger kids or even those without a dog can find free do-it-yourself activity guides, as well as virtual interactive classes hosted by spcaLA teachers for as little as $5 a child at spcala.com.
